A new rite of summer begins Wednesday with the opening of the inaugural Quarter Horse meet at Fair Grounds. The five-day meet runs through Sunday. Ten races are carded for each day, with first post at 3 p.m. CDT.

Stall Apps For FG Thoroughbred Meet Available

Stall applications for the 137th Thoroughbred season of racing at Fair Grounds are now available. Horsemen can download the application on the horsemen’s page at fairgroundsracecourse.com. Hard copies of the application will be available at racing offices throughout the country early next week.

Live racing at Fair Grounds, usually reserved for the winter, is about to be part of the New Orleans summer. The track’s inaugural Quarter Horse meet is little more than a week away, on Aug. 20-24. First post each day is 3 p.m. CDT.

Louisiana native Jason Boulet has been named racing secretary at Fair Grounds, track president Randy Soth announced Wednesday, July 23. Boulet, who worked at Fair Grounds from 2002-05 in a variety of capacitiies, has served as racing secretary at Evangeline Downs since 2005.
