New Orleans hosts the Jazz and Heritage Festival
Thank you to all who attended our 6th Annual Newest New Orleanians Breakfast with the Mayor. We proudly hosted 300 people, presented 40 non-profits, and thanked our generous sponsors.
THE SIXTH ANNUAL NEWEST ORLEANIANS’ BREAKFAST WITH THE MAYOR
The 2007 Newest New Orleanians’ Breakfast with the Mayor is scheduled for 8:00 on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at Gallier Hall.
Last year over 300 newcomers as well as returnees enjoyed the Creole breakfast provided by Dorignac’s Food Center, delicious pastries from La Boulangerie, and N. O. Brew coffee. The program included welcoming remarks from C. Ray Nagin, Mayor of the City of New Orleans, and John Young, Council-at-Large, Division A, Jefferson Parish. In addition, exhibits from over 38 non-profit organizations provided our area’s newest citizens an introduction to the region, its culture, and its residents.
The concept of the Newest Orleanians’ Breakfast with the Mayor is based on a similar program in Boston that was designed to capture the enthusiasm of the newcomer as well as enhance the image of their new home town. Traditionally, our complimentary breakfast introduced the city’s newest citizens to the city, its culture, and its residents by providing information about upcoming community and cultural events, continuing education, and volunteer opportunities. In 2006, the format of the breakfast was expanded to include a celebration of the city’s re-birth post Katrina.

MakeNewOrleansHome.com launches its new website…a one-stop nexus for those people looking to relocate to New Orleans.
This very important resource provides information necessary to promote the experience of living in New Orleans. Information about neighborhoods, schools, city services including how to obtain permits and licenses, and business and job opportunities are just a few of the items found on the website. The website also has a section called “what’s happening around the city” detailing all the fun things that are taking place.
“We are very excited about our dynamic web-site which is a major milestone for our organization”, said Suzanne Lapin, president of MakeNewOrleansHome.com. “The most important resource of any community is its people. For the New Orleans metropolitan region to prosper post-Katrina, population retention and growth are essential for economic development. Our website will help promote New Orleans as a ‘place to live life’.”
MakeNewOrleansHome.com has produced a series of video testimonials from people who have moved to New Orleans. The videos are currently playing in most hotel rooms in the city as well as on New Orleans cable stations. This non-profit group also hosts an annual “Newest New Orleanians’ Breakfast with the Mayor”.
MakeNewOrleansHome.com website has been developed by Compucast Interactive, a New Orleans based web design and internet marketing firm with over 100 years of experience in the field. In addition to designing and developing the web sites for over 250 New Orleans based businesses, they specialize in hospitality marketing and lead generation through portals promoting New Orleans.
“The new site is a completely interactive site, allowing efficient and cost-effective content management for this extensive web site with over 150 searchable pages of comprehensive content about the New Orleans area” says Judy Weitz, who started Compucast Web in 1994. “We are honored to be the online partner in this important project to help the New Orleans metropolitan area.”
