What to Expect
The state requires that you register your vehicles within 30 days of taking up residence or employment in Louisiana. There are a lot of variables in changing over the registration of a vehicle from out of state. The website outlines what to do to register a new or used vehicle, a vehicle from out of state, and to transfer title of a vehicle. You'll be required to pay a sales tax on out-of-state vehicles.
You can download the main registration application form, DPSMV 1799 ) from their website.
Area Served
New Orleans metropolitan area.
Other
The web site provides thorough information on all motor vehicle issues. It can be a little confusing to wade through, since it's written in legalese, but it's a great first-stop before getting into the long line at the motor vehicle bureau. The toll-free line is informative also, and you can speak to an official if you have questions. However, expect a bit of a wait.
More Info
You might find it easier to go to an Auto Title & Registration office, usually paired with a Notary Public service, where you can get the whole process taken care of for a fee.
