The climate is characterized by short mild winters and long, hot, and generally humid summers.  Periods of cold weather are extremely rare. Although summer daytime highs are rarely more than the mid 90's, the constantly high relative humidity causes some discomfort. Summer nighttime lows are generally in the 70°s F during much of the summer.

Winter Temperature Range 42°F to 72°F
Spring Temperature Range 58°F - 89°F
Summer Temperature Range 70°F - 91°F
Fall Temperature Range 45°F - 79°F

Total annual precipitation in New Orleans, mostly in the form of rain, totals more than 60 inches. Snow, ice and hail are rare in Louisiana - Snowfall averages .2" annually. Thunderstorms are frequent in July, which is the wettest month, and tropical storms and hurricanes sometimes strike the coast, usually between July and September. Droughts are seldom severe.
